Garth
Shaw

Director of Sustainability

Garth is the Director of Sustainability at GSBS Consulting. With a wide array of resources and extensive experience in energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality and sustainable site designs, Garth bridges the gap between design ideals and actual sustainable performance. Garth aligns client visions with specific sustainable design strategies assuring the highest level of sustainable performance appropriate for a project.

Clio
Rayner

Project Manager

Clio has worked at GSBS Architects for thirteen years and has been a licensed architect in Utah for nine.  She graduated with her Masters in Architecture from the University of Utah in 2005 where her interest in and love of the environment turned into a focus on sustainable design.  This, as an integral aspect of good design, has influenced her career ever since.  Clio has been a member of the sustainability team at GSBS Architects for her entire career. She has helped guide the sustainability mission for GSBS since 2005 and played an important role in the certification of more than 30 LEED projects. Clio has always been an active member of the sustainability community in Utah as a speaker at conferences and seminars and as a guest lecturer and adjunct faculty member for University programs.

David

Principal, Director of Design

David is a leader of the Sustainable Design Movement, helping establish an ethic that now runs deep in American Architecture.  He chaired the National AIA Committee on Design in 2006, uniting the AIA Committee on the Environment and the Committee on Design in a first ever collaborative vision, “The Architecture of Sustainability”.  He was elevated to AIA Fellowship in 2007 for his professional contribution to art of Design. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Utah, College of Architecture and Planning, teaching graduate classes in design and environmental responsibility.

Planner

Erika is a planner, working to bring improving community health outcomes and sustainability into the forefront of projects. Her background in urban design, active transportation planning, and universal design brought her to GSBS. She is a proponent of placemaking—a hands-on planning approach that inspires people to reimagine public spaces as the soul of every community. Erika utilizes her skills in urban design to bring innovative and interactive experiences to community engagement. 

Erika is active in the American Planning Association and has served on the board of directors of the Cleveland State University Chapter and Ohio Chapter from 2016-2019. She has also had her WELL AP accreditation since 2022.

Makenzie Simonson

Interior Designer

Makenzie is an Interior Designer for GSBS and a graduate from the University of Florida. She grew up along Florida’s coast and has always spent most of her time outside where she is happiest. Her love for sustainability grew stronger after working as an outdoor guide and studying architectural design. Makenzie decided to become an Interior Designer to create healthier, safer buildings with positive impacts on humans and the environment. She is passionate about designing innovative spaces that create a better world to live in for generations to come. Makenzie has been part of the Sustainable Design Excellence group since her start at GSBS in 2022 and is a WELL Accredited Professional.

Landscape Architect

Ben is a Landscape Architect, that strives to incorporate environmental design and sustainable site design strategies in every project. His interest in sustainability started while he was studying at the University of Idaho and has grown in his professional career. Ben uses his site design skills to incorporate the technical aspects of sustainable site practices into built landscapes that are aesthetically functional.  He is particularly interested in artful solutions to stormwater management and the addition of vegetative cover to create a beautiful more resilient future.
